THE YEAR IS 2017.
OUR FIRST MAJOR YEAR IN THE FIELD.
SEPTEMBER was OUR BIG MONTH FOR PLANNING...
September marked the beginning of our club. We decided that our goal would be centered around education --helping those who are limited by their access to opportunity discover the unlimited world around them.
This was a big time for brainstorming. After doing some research and planning, we visited Oak View Elementary school and met with their principal, and from that our team started our mission to help the community around us.
|
Our quest began with a stem night at oak view ES...
The wonders of science, technology, engineering and mathematics all began to unveil...
|
Then WE REACHED OUT TO WHEATON WOODS
We continued to develop activities...
Our First Grant Based Project
"LETTUCE BEET HUNGER"
In our pursuit to improve the community, we took initiative and donated handmade sandwiches to Shepard's Table, which feeds homeless in Montgomery County.
Although the grant request was not approved, it was a good experience and we were motivated to carry out the project anyways. In the future, we will looking into grant based projects as well.
|
IN JUNE, WE BROUGHT OUR PROJECTS TO THE CLASSROOM
WORKING WITH EDUCATORSWe worked with Oak View ES teachers to bring a presentation about the quirks and frontiers of STEM.
|
Hands on ActivitiesThe story of toothpicks, marshmallows and structural forces. A hands-on experience for the students.
|
Science Isn't BoringMix a few seemingly boring solutions together and bright, fast reactions happen...
|
And to wrap it all up
We were asked to attend a DC community event in June and present about robotics.
Challenging math problems that had real world implications... Electronics, a world filled with batteries, lights, wires, and resistors...
Structural engineering, demonstrated with marshmallows... Filled with hands on activities, cool experiments, and demonstrations, the event closes the year of 2017-2018 for us... |
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
There's much more than just events.
WE LEARNED A LOT...
I ❤ MY COMMUNITY

The World Around Us
|
Logistics/Managment
|
There's so many opportunities to help the world around us. It's hard, but it's worth it.
|
Meeting new people, cultures, and backgrounds.
|
Meeting with teachers, arranging car rides, sorting out materials, it's all part of the fun.
|
But most importantly
We learned how to be a team, a team that was first of its kind in Montgomery County that brought change.
